Award-winning minimalist living at its best
These homeowners had a particular vision in mind for their new home build. Inspired by modern home design, we wanted to capture minimalism with warmth. They wanted the best of both worlds - the modern design of a favourite architect, and a construction firm who could provide cost-effective solutions without impacting the overall look of the design. Keeping the budget in line with expectations was crucial for this one, but we made it happen.
This Award-winning home design features architectural concrete throughout the home including a 25-foot concrete wall with an embedded stairwell. The extra weight on the building required special engineering to ensure the floors could manage the additional load. The main living area extends to the outdoors to maximize entertaining space (who’s ready to party?). In addition, the home features an atrium in the centre of the house (which is exposed to the elements) and required a waterproof system to ensure the areas adjacent were watertight. To keep to the aesthetic of the architectural design, the Upward team provided alternatives for the windows and exterior cladding system to stay in line with quality and budget expectations. An unexpected oil tank excavation was needed, but we strategically approached the issue and were able to offer solutions to reduce risk to the environment and keep the overall cost of the project in line. In the end, we were left with a modern masterpiece.
