A renovation to preserve generations of family memories
Home is where the heart is, and this award winning Vancouver full home renovation was particularly close to the client's heart. Built initially by the homeowner's grandfather, the family had fond memories of the house over the years. The homeowner asked the Upward team to preserve some cherished items within the home, including the fireplace that featured stones from the Yukon that the grandfather had lovingly used for the hearth. While some older things would remain, it was essential to rebuild the home from the ground up, modernize the layout with a contemporary design, and ensure the house met all Vancouver city code requirements.
With an end goal to rebuild the home so that it could pass down to future generations, the Upward team refreshed and replaced all significant areas of the house for safety and energy efficiency while updating the design to a modern, award-winning contemporary home. The project included new insulation, electric wiring, plumbing, exterior cladding with rain screening and a full seismic update. This custom renovation also carefully considered the age-in-place features, like laundry and a full bathroom suite for the guest room. For easier transitions from outside to inside, we enclosed the carport, turning it into a garage.
We highly recommend Upward for any custom home renovation project to be delivered on-time, on-budget and be built by a skilled team. Our home was renovated by craftsmen who did everything in their power to preserve the sentimental design elements in the house which was an inevitable challenge with this project. Our Project Manager communicated extremely well and always kept us informed about next steps, results of inspections and budget status. Upward sources a trades team that understands and meets their high standards of quality and to meet the expected timelines. We’re very happy with the results during our time spent getting to know Upward and its wonderful staff.
